1 Timothy 4:7-8

“But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

Paul compares the spiritual life to physical exercise: both require steady practice, not occasional motivation. The difference is in the scope of the benefit โ€” one is temporary, the other is for this life and beyond.

Let's not overcomplicate this: spiritual maturity rarely arrives through one intense moment. It comes through steady, unspectacular practice, day after day.

Reflection Question

Do I give my spiritual life the same steady discipline I give other areas of my life?

Today's Action

Pick one small, sustainable spiritual habit (5 minutes of prayer, a chapter of the Bible) and do it today, focusing on consistency more than intensity.

Prayer

Lord, help me train myself in godliness with the same discipline I put into other goals. Let my spiritual growth not depend only on how I feel.
