Matthew 7:1-3
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”
The image Jesus uses is almost comically exaggerated: someone with an entire log in their eye trying to pick a splinter out of someone else's. The exaggeration isn't accidental, it's meant to make us notice how absurd it sounds.
Let's not overcomplicate this: before correcting someone else's flaw, it's worth first checking how honestly you're looking at your own.
Who am I judging today with a standard I wouldn't apply to myself?
Next time you catch yourself judging someone today, stop and honestly ask yourself if you do something similar in another area.
Lord, show me the beam in my own eye before I keep pointing out the speck in someone else's. Give me a more humble heart toward others.
