Exodus 20:8-10

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.”

The commandment to rest is on the same list as "thou shalt not kill" or "thou shalt not steal" โ€” it's not an optional suggestion for the most tired among us, it's part of the original design for everyone.

Let's not overcomplicate this: resting isn't a lack of spiritual discipline. It is, in fact, an act of obedience we often avoid.

Reflection Question

Do I have any fixed day or moment in the week where I truly stop producing, or do I live in constant mode?

Today's Action

Choose a block of time this week, even just a few hours, and guard it on purpose to rest without guilt.

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for treating rest as a waste of time. Help me obey You in this too, not only in what looks spiritual.
