1 John 3:1

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

John doesn't describe this sonship as something we earned, but as something given to us. The wonder of the verse is in the word "behold" โ€” as if to say: stop for a second to consider this, because it's bigger than it looks.

Let's not overcomplicate this: you don't need to earn a place that was already given to you. You need to stop looking for your worth somewhere else.

Reflection Question

Where am I drawing my sense of worth from today: what I accomplish, what others think, or being a child of God?

Today's Action

Before you check social media or compare yourself to someone today, say out loud, 'I am a child of God,' and notice if it changes anything about your day.

Prayer

Father, help me rest in the fact that I am already Yours, not in what I manage to prove. Let my identity be rooted in You.
