1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Paul doesn't say "give thanks for everything," as if we had to pretend pain is good. He says "in every thing give thanks" — in the middle of the circumstances, not because of them. It's a small difference in grammar and a huge one in real life.
Let's not overcomplicate this: gratitude isn't denying what hurts. It's choosing to also see what's holding you up, even when the rest of the picture is still incomplete.
Am I waiting for everything to go right before giving thanks, or can I give thanks in the middle of what's still unresolved?
Before bed, write down three specific things from today you can be thankful for, even if the day was hard.
Lord, teach me to give thanks not because everything is fine, but because You are with me in everything. Thank You for today.
