Psalms 34:18

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

This psalm doesn't present God as a distant spectator of suffering, but as someone who draws near precisely when the heart is broken. It doesn't promise the absence of pain, but His presence within it.

Let's not overcomplicate this: David isn't saying sadness disappears the moment you pray. He's saying something simpler and more solid: when the heart breaks, God doesn't pull away โ€” He draws near.

Reflection Question

In what area of my life do I need to remember that God is near, even when I don't feel it?

Today's Action

Write down a situation that hurts today, and above it write: 'God is near to this.'

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are not far from my pain. Help me feel Your nearness today, even in the middle of what I don't understand.
